Late in the event, one of the ladies from Ildhafn mentioned disappointment at not being able to find a suitable pennannular brooch at the market, so I popped up behind her and said 'if you come over to the forge I'll make you one now', chopped up some fine silver wire, and after a sequence of hammering and annealing, sold her a brooch based on some I saw in the viking exhibition that came through sometime 2006 ish - simple square twist and curl ends, about 20mm diameter.

I liked it so much, I promptly made two more, one for sale and one to give away. Photos here

The girlfriend looking over my shoulder declared, "Oooo...pretty! Want! Don't know when I'll use it, but want! Where is he located?"

Me: "Guess."
GF: "San Francisco?"
Me: "HA! You should be so lucky."
GF: "LA? We're going there in March, you know."
Me: "A bit farther."
GF: "*sigh* It's New Zealand, isn't it? Goddammit."

Obviously, if we can work out the Black Blood of the Earth/Stein of Science to silverwork exchange rate, we can go off the dollar standard.

They're small enough to post easily. Do they let BBotE through customs...?

If you put it your checked luggage maybe. Otherwise, the shipment of liquids by mail is somewhere on the spectrum of extremely strongly discourage to outright VERBOTEN. Packages of the size/weight of a BBotE three pack are ~US$140 for shipping, according to UPS, which is comparable to shipping to NZ or England.

The reason I know all this is because I have a friend in Sydney getting married in June who would like some of the wares of St. George Spirits and they have no distributor in Oz. I sent him a care package of booze to the Astrophysics Dept. at Exeter when he was there marked as "Scientific Glassware". Got there no questions asked, but it was expensive.

And I'm still in love with mine, and by extension you. Only in a not creepy way, honest ;-P

I keep going "Squee!!!"

No problem. Besides, I've never had anyone in love with me in a creepy way. I've been in love in/target of love in crushy/clumsy/adolescent ways, but not creepy ways, yet:-)

Besides, you covet me for my abilities with stuff only, I'm sure.
